Delete Items with Fines

Instructions for Deleting Items in Voyager with Fines/Fees Attached

Occasionally, when attempting to delete an item in the Voyager cataloging module, you will get the following error message:

Unable to delete. Item has an outstanding fine/fee. Item can be deleted when fine/fee is paid.

Here are instructions to resolve this problem so that the item can be deleted.

Log in to the circulation module.

Select the “Item” icon.

Enter the barcode number and press <OK>.


Select the “Item” drop down menu at the top of your screen.

Select “Outstanding Fines…”

The “Outstanding Fines for this Item” window will open.


Click on the “Patron Fines” button at the bottom of the window.

The “Patron Fines/Fees” window will open.


Highlight the book in question.

Click on the “Post…” button at the bottom of the window.

The “Post Against Fine/Fees” window will open.


Post Against: “Selected” (if the patron has more than one fine and you are only clearing the single fine)

OR “Patron Total” (if this title is the only outstanding fine for this patron).

Posting Type: “Forgive”.

Amount: enter amount of fine.

Description: “Cleared so that item may be withdrawn. Name or initials/Date”.

Click <OK>.

You will automatically be returned to the “Patron Fine/Fees” window.


Close the “Patron Fine/Fees” window.

Close the “Outstanding Fines for this Item” window.

Close the item record (in the circulation module).

Return to the cataloging module.

Continue to delete item as usual.
